# How To Add Employee Directory App to Microsoft Teams

**Tools:** Microsoft 365 Admin Center, Microsoft Teams, Vitextra Employee Directory

Microsoft Teams with the Employee Directory (Employees) icon pinned in the left app bar, and the app open showing the employee search page with quick filters and a grid of employee cards.

## 1. Go to SharePoint Admin Center

Open [Microsoft 365 Admin Center](https://admin.microsoft.com) and sign in with an account that has been assigned the SharePoint Administrator role.
Click **SharePoint** under the **Admin centers** heading to open the SharePoint Admin Center.

## 2. Open SharePoint App Catalog

Go to **More features** in the left navigation menu and click the **Open** button under the **Apps** heading. In the new window, go to **App Catalog** and select **Apps for SharePoint** on the quick launch menu.

❗ **Important**
If you do not have an App Catalog yet, you need to create one first. Microsoft describes the process in [Use the App Catalog to make custom business apps available for your SharePoint environment](https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/sharepoint/use-app-catalog).

## 3. Sync Employee Directory App to Teams

In the list of Apps for SharePoint, select **Employee Directory** and go to the **FILES** tab, then click **Sync to Teams**.
When the operation completes, a notification message — *Successfully synced teams solution* — appears in the top-right corner of the page. This step publishes the Teams app package that corresponds to your SharePoint app, so the same permissions and updates apply to both.

## 4. Find Employee Directory in the Teams App Store

Open the Microsoft Teams app and click **Apps** in the left app bar. Select **Built for your org** from the categories on the left — this is where custom apps synced from your own SharePoint App Catalog show up, as opposed to apps published by Microsoft or third parties. Find the tile published by Vitextra and click it to open its details page.

📝 **Note**
The tile is labeled with the Teams app's own name, which does not always match the SharePoint web part name exactly — Employee Directory typically appears under a shorter name such as **Employees**. If you are not sure which tile is the right one, check the publisher (Vitextra) and the description shown on the tile.

## 5. Add and Open Employee Directory as a Personal App

![Add and Open Employee Directory as a Personal App](https://static.vitextra.com/articles/50000/add-employee-directory-to-microsoft-teams-Step5-en.png)

On the app's details page, click **Add** — not **Add to a team** or **Add to a channel** — to install it as a personal app for your own account only. Employee Directory then appears as an icon in the app bar on the left side of Teams, and opening it shows the full directory search experience directly, with no extra configuration to complete: a personal app uses one shared, default configuration rather than the per-instance property pane a channel tab would have.

💡 **Tip**
Adding the app this way only pins it for the person who clicked Add. To make Employee Directory show up automatically for everyone in the organization, a Teams administrator can pin it tenant-wide through an app setup policy in the Teams admin center, instead of asking every user to add it manually.

With Employee Directory added as a personal app, colleague search becomes a one-click action from anywhere in Teams, instead of something tied to one particular channel. Because the personal app uses the same underlying data source as the SharePoint web part, both stay in sync automatically — there is nothing extra to maintain. If you also want new hires to be visible the moment they join, take a look at [KB10207. Boost Onboarding with the New Employees Web Part](https://vitextra.com/en/support/kb/10207).
