# How To Display Azure DevOps Query Results in SharePoint Online

**Tools:** SharePoint Online, Azure DevOps, Vitextra My Tasks

## 1. Prerequisites

Before you add the web part, make sure the following prerequisites are in place:

**Approved API access for the SharePoint solution**
- Grant the necessary permissions for the web part to call Azure DevOps REST APIs. Since this is an SPFx solution, the tenant administrator approves the API permission request once, in the SharePoint Admin Center, on behalf of the whole tenant.

**Access to an Azure DevOps organization**
- Have an active Azure DevOps account.
- Be a member of the Azure DevOps organization where the queries you want to show are stored.

**Necessary permissions**
- Make sure the end users who will view the web part have read access to the relevant projects and queries in Azure DevOps — the web part reads data with the permissions of the signed-in user, so it never shows more than Azure DevOps itself would.

💡 **Tip**
For detailed installation instructions, see [How to Install a Vitextra Product in SharePoint Online](https://vitextra.com/en/support/kb/10035). For a broader look at what the web part can do, see [KB10209. Azure DevOps Query Viewer: Overview](https://vitextra.com/en/support/kb/10209).

## 2. Adding the Azure DevOps Query Viewer Web Part

To add the Azure DevOps Query Viewer web part to a SharePoint Online page, navigate to the page where you want to place it and click **Edit** to enter edit mode. Click the **+** icon to add a new web part, then search for "Azure DevOps Query" in the list of available web parts.

Once you find it, select **Azure DevOps Query** to add it to the page.

## 3. Data Source Configuration

![Data Source Configuration](https://static.vitextra.com/articles/50003/view-azure-devops-tasks-on-sharepoint-site-Step3-en.png)

Click the edit web part icon (pencil) or the **Configure web part** button to open the configuration pane. Select the following options in order:

- The **Azure DevOps organization** you are a member of.
- The **project** from which you want to display query results.
- The **query** you want to display.

❗ **Important**
The Azure DevOps Query web part currently supports only flat queries. Tree and Directs queries are not supported — if your query does not appear in the list, or shows no results, check its type in Azure DevOps first.

## 4. Display Options

![Display Options](https://static.vitextra.com/articles/50003/view-azure-devops-tasks-on-sharepoint-site-Step4-en.png)

Next, adjust the display options to match your preferences. Use the **Row Limit** slider to choose how many work items to display. To enable pagination, select the option to display items in **batches of the specified size** and choose the **position of the pagination control** (top, bottom, or both). If you prefer no pagination, select the option to limit the total number of returned items to a fixed amount and specify that amount instead.

Finally, adjust the appearance settings. Enable **Compact List** to display the details list in a more condensed format — useful when you need to fit more work items on the screen without extensive scrolling. Enable the **Command Bar** to give users quick access to actions related to the displayed results, such as refreshing the data or exporting it to Excel.

## 5. Finalizing and Viewing Results

After configuring the web part, save and publish the SharePoint Online page. Publishing ensures the Azure DevOps query results are displayed correctly for every visitor, not only in edit mode.

Once the changes are published, open the page again to confirm the query results appear as expected. This final check confirms that the integration works end to end and that your team can now see real-time Azure DevOps data directly inside SharePoint.

## 6. License Assignment (Optional)

![License Assignment (Optional)](https://static.vitextra.com/articles/50003/view-azure-devops-tasks-on-sharepoint-site-Step6-en.png)

The web part works during the trial period without any additional setup. If you decide to keep using it afterwards, you need to assign a license to the SharePoint Online environment where it is deployed.

To purchase and assign a license, [select the product you need](https://vitextra.com/en/products), choose a monthly or annual subscription, and complete the purchase by adding the product to your cart, reviewing the selection, and entering your billing information. After purchasing, assign the license to the correct tenant — the one where the Azure DevOps Query Viewer web part is actually used. For detailed instructions on purchasing and assigning licenses, see [KB10206. Licensing Vitextra Products](https://vitextra.com/en/support/kb/10206).

Once installed and licensed, the Azure DevOps Query Viewer web part becomes a lightweight status board that keeps updating on its own — nobody has to copy work-item data into SharePoint by hand, and nobody has to leave SharePoint to check on it. If your team also tracks tasks that come from Planner, To Do or Outlook alongside Azure DevOps, consider adding the [My Tasks](https://vitextra.com/en/products/my-tasks) web part itself to bring all of those sources into a single unified list.
